Your poetry glossary - a basic guide!

Here are some poetic terms you HAVE to know:
Stanza - a set of lines, grouped together by length, meter or rhyme scheme
Meter - pattern of stressed (long-sounding) & unstressed (short-sounding) syllables
Rhyme scheme - pattern of rhyme at the end of each line/ verse
Syllable - single, unbroken sound of a word
Couplet - 2 line stanzas
Tercet - 3 line stanzas
Quatrain - 4 line stanzas
Cincquain - 5 line stanzas
Sestet - 6 line stanzas
